We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Paralegal to join our team

SEN Legal is a specialist education and disability law firm with a national client base. We act solely on behalf of parents/young persons in relation to all matters regarding their child’s special educational needs including SEND Tribunals, Judicial Review, Social Care, Deputyship, Continuing Healthcare, Disability Discrimination, Exclusions and Admissions Appeals. We also act for independent and Academy Schools.

 

The main duty of the role of the Paralegal is to provide support to the Solicitors and assist in the management of client cases. You will be allocated your own cases on which you will be expected to take responsibility, working alongside the Solicitor and managing the day to day correspondence and developments relating to the client’s case. You will work closely with clients primarily across email and telephone.

 

An example of the tasks associated with the role are:

 

  • To liaise closely with our clients at all times so that they are kept fully informed. This will be by telephone, email, virtual platforms and occasionally face to face.

 

  • To ensure that our case management software and Outlook are kept up to date with all ‘Key Dates’ and deadlines. To monitor all deadlines on assigned cases, and liaise with the Solicitor/Legal Executive as to their compliance.​

 

  • To lodge Appeals as and when required.

 

  • To send out Provision of Place Forms as required. To work with Schools to gather evidence to support a client's case.

 

  • To submit GDPR requests as required, and to sift records received under guidance of the Solicitor.

 

  • To draft FOI responses as required.

 

  • To assist with the preparation of evidence for the Further Information deadline and liaise with expert witnesses as to timescales.

 

  • To serve Additional Evidence as required.

 

  • To draft Requests to the Tribunal under the guidance of the Solicitor.
     

  • To arrange conferences and prepare instructions to Counsel.

  • To liaise with Counsel and Counsel’s Clerks as to upcoming Hearings.

 

  • To arrange any meetings that may be required during the course of a case.​​

 

 

Somebody with experience of working in the field of SEN/Education law or with previous Paralegal experience is desired but not required. The role would be suited for somebody who is eager to learn about a dynamic and fast paced area of law and who has empathy and understanding. The suitable candidate will be a team-player, proficient in IT and have excellent time-management skills.
